Picacho Peak

9-Mar-70

Approximately 15 were present and enjoyed the Saturday night camp in a sandy wash near the starting point. The following morning all on hand reached the summit of this short and most enjoyable climb. As a few members of the group had little or no experience in rappelling, the ladder was used a bit more than is usual. But everyone appreciated the near-vertical views of the desert floor. The nearby volcanic plugs, and the view of the Colorado River with Castle Dome jutting skyward in the distance beyond it. Arkel Erb did his usual admirable job in leading this trip.
