October 4th and 5th. A turnout of about twenty-four found a weekend at Waucoba most enjoyable. The camp site was reached early on Saturday afternoon, and while a few went exploring, others picked pinon nuts which abounded in nearby trees. On Sunday morning, led by John Delmonte, the group comprising Jocelyn and Judith Delmonte, Frederic Bankerd, Ruth and Wayne McCartney, Stanton Smith, Frank Sanborn, Dick Woodward, Ken and Kerry Rich, Dick Kenyon, Bob Schmelzer, Bernice and Walt Heninger, Margaret Sosnowaki, Ed Plante, Jim Moore and Larry Ames, negotiated Waucoba Peak. Outside of a geological survey party, the peak had not been climbed for three years. The weather was superb, particularly the panorama of the Sierra Nevadas across the valley. Fred Bankerd, taking the place of Gene Ramstadt, served as assistant leader on this trip.
