Mount Inyo, Keynot Peak

We made this a backpack the classic "Bedsprings Camp" route with terrific weather and views. We met Saturday morning and left early at the 4-wheel drive spot for the backpack to camp and afternoon climb of Mt. Inyo. There was a good trail up the scree slope all the way to the camp. Progress was slow but sure because of the weight of our packs. Many people took extra water because of the fear of no snow at the camp. John and Carol McCully took black plastic bags to melt snow at camp, which actually worked out well. There was snow not too far from camp. The peak climb in the afternoon added gain to the weekend, but went smoothly. Evelyn Reher got her emblem on top of the peak. We headed down, back to camp.

The next morning, we got up to Keynot again with spectacular views of the Sierras. Not a cloud in the sky. We were told to stay to the right and not the left, so we did not follow the advice of people who know better and ran into snow. We made it back to the cars in record time, thanks to the infamous scree slope after Bedsprings Camp. Thanks for a terrific lead by Phil Reher!
